Portland is fantastic...

10/13/10
We spent the night in Portland with Matt and Sam. We met Matt at Daddy Mojo's, a little corner bar on Fremont. He watched the end of the game and we had a couple of beers. Then went to a fantastic little Mexican restaurant, where I ate chorizo tacos that melted my taste buds. So very yummy. We went to a bar and had a couple drinks and came back to sleep off those couple of margaritas that I had. I woke up to all the city sounds around us and a slight but exciting headache. Went back to sleep for a bit and woke up to go on a coffee treasure hunt. We walked to a store that Matt had recommended, Rerun. Super cool used consignment shop. Found a rad skirt and shirt. Everything is so cheap when your not in Alaska.

It's so nice to walk through different neighborhoods and see how everyone is so creative with their yards and the way they paint their houses such bold colors. We saw growing boxes in between the sidewalk and the street filled with produce growing. Seems like the thing to do here is plant in front of your house due to lack of lawns. All the houses seem old, touched with new and urban hands. I told Rico I might be able to live in a city if I didn't have to leave my neighborhood. So much going on here and everyone seems pretty friendly and happy.

Matt and Sam had told us about the Grilled Cheese Bus so we went and had lunch. Incredible. They cook and have seating in a bus. It's painted up with amazing graphics. We enjoyed a jalapeno popper grilled cheese and a jersey. When we don't know what to get we get two and split. The jalapeno popper was stuffed with tortilla chips, cream cheese, ham, jalapenos and some other cheese grilled to perfection. And the jersey consisted of turkey,Swiss and mushrooms grilled on rye bread. So freakin' good.

We walked down Alberta and stopped and browsed in all the little artsy shops. Scored a couple stickers for the van. We walked from 6th St to 25th St it was a nice walk and totally appropriate beings we haven't gotten much exercise in the van. We walked back to the house with the leaves crunching at our feet and the sun leading the way. Super sunny day with a perfect breeze.

We are going with Matt and Sam camping tonight at some hot springs. They say it's pretty phenomenal, it should be a good time. It's funny to go camping when we are on a big "camping" trip. I love it. We've had a blast in Portland and only touched a tiny, tiny part of it. I love that we can walk everywhere! Peace.
